I missed out on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it sold yesterday while I was at work.

I’ve been shopping around again and stumbled upon two Civic Si’s. One is a 07 coupe w/100k miles about 30 minutes from me and priced at $7,899 (been on the lot for 45 days according to Carguru); the second Civic is on the south side of my town and is a 2009 coupe with 100k miles priced at $8,800. My question is that with the new Si due out late this year or next year most likely, is buying a Si now stupid since I’m sure the 10th gen wil most likely send used prices falling?

Side note: I threw out an offer for the first Si and got the “Any negotiations need to be done in our dealership” answer

In 2013 I noticed that ‘10 and ‘11 Si’s didn’t lose much value from original. So I’d say the same will happen with ‘13/’14/’15 for now.

Always be prepared to walk away.

The Si is one of those cars whose history I would want to scrutinize especially well... with a strong preference for single-owner, with spotless maintenance history. I personally would much rather have one of the older ones, just because they’ve gotten bigger and uglier (IMO) over the years. Not sure about the performance tradeoffs of the generations, other than the general trend of mellowing out the engines with more displacement and torque.

Understandable. From what both places say is that both cars were single owners. From pictures provided they both appear stock and no noticeable dents

I personally think the new Civics are hideous so I’d be fine getting a previous gen Si.

“ is buying a Si now stupid since I’m sure the 10th gen will most likely send used prices falling?”

Nah... it’s not stupid. Used car prices are always ‘falling’. If you need a car now, you buy a car now. If you don’t need it, then the fiscally wise thing is to hold off until you do need a car... UNLESS you depend on your car for work and your current car is getting to the point in age/mileage that replacing it is a good idea.

And you get what you pay for. Yeah, a used SI isn’t gonna be as fast, but it’s also only 1/3 the cost of a new one. Plus it’s still a reasonably fun car.

And yeah, the new SI will probably make the prices for existing SI Civics drop.

If your goal is to have a turbocharged Civic, then I would say you should wait and buy a new one instead of buying a used one and modding the hell out of it.

If you need a car now, buy the best car for you that’s within your budget. If you don’t really need a car, then it may be wise to wait.

Here is a bone stock 04, but has high miles and not sure if you were looking at this model year. But at any rate..
